Tasmania was one of my favourite road trips in Australia. With such a variety of natural landscapes, Tasmania is a photographers dream. From the most incredible beaches like Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park to epic scenery like Cradle Mountain and the Bay of Fires. Here are the most instagrammable photo spots in Tasmania, including all the must see places.
I have organised the most instagrammable photo spots in Tasmania in order of location to make it easier for you to plan your road trip!
Offering breath-taking views over Tasmania’s capital, Mount Wellington is easily Hobart’s most instagrammable place. If you don’t want to hike up, you will need a car.
TOP TIP – Go up Mount Wellington at sunrise or sunset for the best light.
There is something about 2 bodies of water being so close yet still separated by land that is so photogenic. The Neck lookout on Bruny Island will give you the perfect vantage point of this beautiful view.
TOP TIP – Come at sunrise or sunset for the best light and also to tie it in with a trip to see the penguins on the beach!
The cliffs on Bruny Island are quite spectacular, and the Cape Queen Elizabeth Arch is no exception. You will need to walk around 3 hours return to get there, but it is definitely worth it! If you have bikes you can also cycle about half the path (before it turns into sand dunes).
TOP TIP – Make sure you visit the arch at low tide, you will need to walk along the beach a bit, and you might end of stranded if you go at high tide.
With the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere, the Tasman Peninsula has incredible photo opportunities. The candlestick and totem pole at Cape Huay are one of the most iconic instagram spots, with the best view being from below on a Pennicott Wilderness Journeys tour.
You can also hike and see Cape Huay rock from above!
Cape Raoul is a 4-5 hours return hike, and offers amazing views over of the humongous cliffs.
Tasmania has plenty of beautiful waterfalls, make sure you check out Horse Shoe Falls.
Dove lake is the most iconic spot to view Cradle Mountain, and is one of the most instagrammable spots in Australia. If you’re lucky you might even catch it on a clear day with a perfect reflection! You can snap a few photos at the boat ramp (right near the car park) or walk round to the boat shed.
If you visit Cradle Mountain make sure to stop at Ronny Creek car park for the chance to spot some wild wombats!
The kitchen hut is actually there for emergency shelter (and some hikers like their bags there before heading up Cradle Mountain summit), but it makes for a great instagram photo!
It’s located just at the bottom of the summit, about a 1.5 hour walk from dove lake car park via Marion’s lookout.
My personal favourite view of Cradle Mountain was from Mount Campbell. These vantage points offer views of the mountains as well as dove lake.
You can walk here from dove lake in around 45 minutes. Walk up towards Hanson’s Peak and then veer off left (no track) towards Mount Campbell.
TOP TIP – head to Mount Campbell for an hour before sunset for the best light (and not to be climbing in the dark).
A massively underrated part of Tasmania (and thus not touristy at all) is Mount Roland. It towers out of the ground and is surrounded by beautiful rolling green fields.
The Eagles Nest Retreat is easily the most instagrammable hotel in Tasmania, offering outdoor spa baths, fire pits, lakes, and their own amphitheatre, all with their own view of Mount Roland! Relaxing here over a couple of days was one of the highlights of my Tasmania road trip.
Lavender fields are so magical, and make great instagram photos. So make sure to stop off at the Bridestowe Lavender Farm near Launceston over the summer period. The lavender will be in bloom from around December to February. You can check in with them on instagram to find out how the lavender is doing.
TOP TIP – Go in the afternoon for softer light and make sure you try their lavender flavoured ice cream.
Beautiful white sand, crystal blue water and unique lichen covered orange rocks, makes the Bay of Fires another beautiful instagrammable spot in Tasmania.
Explore the whole coastline to find your own private spot, and make sure you head to Skeleton Bay Reserve in Binalong Bay to photograph the iconic single tree that grows out of the rocks.
TOP TIP – go at sunrise or sunset for low light so that you can shoot a nice long exposure shot here.
Not very common on Instagram, however I found the Bicheno blowhole to be extremely instagrammable, especially if you time it right and have the water splashing around you!
TOP TIP – You need to go at high tide to catch the blowhole at its most impressive.
One of the most iconic spots in Tasmania, if not Australia, is Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park. It is a beautiful beach white sand beach with turquoise water and best viewed from above. Mount Amos is a very difficult climb, the rocks are both steep and slippy, but the effort is definitely worth the view!
TOP TIP – The light at sunrise is amazing! This means you will need to be at the base of Mount Amos at least an hour before starting the hike. The hike starts through forest (so it’s ok with just a flash light) and it should be brighter by the time you reach the rock climbing/scrambling section.
Mount Amos is a very steep 1 hour hike up, if you’re looking for a less strenous hike I would recommend hiking to the less high up Wineglass Bay lookout.
Once you’ve seen Wineglass Bay from above you might also want to explore more of Freycinet National Park and hike down onto the beach. The bright turquoise water and white sand beach is bordered by epic green mountains. It’s easy to understand why Wineglass Bay is one of the most instagrammable photo spots in Tasmania, as well as one of the top beaches in Australia.
Wineglass Bay has no road access, so the only way to visit is to walk from Wineglass Bay Lookout (40 minutes each way), Hazards Beach or take a boat trip. You can get more information (including maps) from the tourism office in Freycinet National Park.
I hope you enjoy the beautiful picturesque Tasmania! There are so many photo opportunities and so many amazing instagrammable photo spots in Tasmania to discover! Make sure you check out my 2 week Tasmania Road Trip for a more detailed guide of my exact itinerary.
