Top 13 Amazing Beaches in Australia

Australia has some of the most amazing beaches in the world! What I love most about them is not only the incredible white sand and blue water, but the amazing wildlife that comes with it, from dolphins to kangaroos to turtles! Below I list my personal top 13 favourite beaches in Australia, they are spread around the country but you can easily visit quite a few in one trip!

1) Hellfire Bay

Easily the most amazing beach in the world, Hellfire Bay has the most incredible coloured water! Even during the Easter Holidays there were hardly any people! If you’re road tripping Western Australia make sure you head down to see the beaches around Esperance.

2) Hyams Beach

Only 3 hours south of Sydney, Jervis Bay is a great weekend getaway. Stretching over 2.8km Hyams beach is rumoured to have the whitest sand in the world. The water is also crystal clear and the beach backs onto bush, it really is a piece of paradise. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins!

3) Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven is voted the most beautiful beach in Australia, and is a must visit on your trip to the Whitsundays in Queensland.

The Hill inlet is located to the north of the 7km long Whitehaven beach and is the third most photographed spot in Australia. The swirling blue and turquoise water over the white sand is quite a site so I definitely recommend booking a tour that includes a visit to the Hill Inlet lookout.

4) Lucky Bay

Coming down the road to Lucky Bay I couldn’t help but go WOW! You can see the turquoise waters from afar and it really does take your breathe away.

Lucky Bay near Esperance in Western Australia is also where you’ll find kangaroos on the beach!

5) Turquoise Bay

The name of the beach kind of gives it away, but Turquoise Bay near Exmouth really does have some incredible water! It’s also a great place to go snorkelling.

6) Bay of Fires

Beautiful white sand, crystal blue water and unique lichen covered orange rocks, makes the Bay of Fires a super unique beach to visit in Australia. Definitely add it to your Tasmania road trip!

There are a number of different beaches along the Bay of Fires, make sure you check out Binalong Bay and Jeanneret beach.

7) Bronte Beach

My personal favourite beach in Sydney, not just because it’s less busy than Bondi, but because of the amazing FREE rockpool!

8) Salmon Beach

Another beach in Australia that took my breath away was Salmon Beach on Rottnest Island. It was made even better by the fact that I cycled there!

9) Lake McKenzie

Not your typical beach as it is in fact a lake, but the contrast of the two blues is just amazing! If you visit Fraser Island you 100% have to check out Lake McKenzie.

10) Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast is a super unique beach in Australia, where the city meets the coastline! As the name suggests it’s also a super popular surfing spot.

11) Wineglass Bay

Whether you climb Mount Amos to see Wineglass Bay from afar or you make the hike to the beach itself, you will not be disappointed. If you’re road tripping around Tasmania you have to stop at Freycinet National Park.

12) Moreton Island

The beach itself isn’t the most amazing one I’ve ever been to but the cluster of shipwrecks make for a super unique snorkelling experience in Queensland. If you are spending a few days in Brisbane, I would definitely recommend a day trip to Moreton Island.

13) Cape Tribulation

Located a few hours north of Cairns, Cape Tribulation is a beautiful palm fringed beach. I wouldn’t recommend swimming here though as there can be the occasional crocodile! But this does mean that the beach is generally deserted, it really makes you feel like you are alone in the world!

I hope you have the best time exploring all of the beautiful beaches in Australia, lying on the soft white sand, swimming in the crystal clear waters and snorkelling with all the unique marine wildlife.
