Fuerteventura is an island that completely exceeded my expectations in every way. I arrived intending only to stay a week to see the main sites and ending up staying five. The incredible arid landscape make for some very unique instaworthy places. Fuerteventura also easily has the best beaches in the Canary Islands, picture long white sand beaches and crystal blue water, very picturesque! Keep reading to find out the most instagrammable photo spots in Fuerteventura.
To make it easy to plan your trip I have separated my list of the most instagrammable places in Fuerteventura by location; north, south and centre. You will also find a map below to see exactly where all the instagrammable places are. Fuerteventura is quite small so you can easily stay in the same town and explore from there, or you can split your time between the north and south. I recommend spending a few nights in the north in Corralejo at either Dunas Club or Brazan Holidays, and a few nights in the south at the Casablanca Suites.
You will need a car to visit most of these instagrammable places so I recommend hiring a car with Cicar. Iβve hired with them multiple times in the Canary Islands and found them to be the most affordable as well as having great customer service. Their price also includes an extra driver and insurance so you donβt need to worry so much about the car! If you arenβt able to hire a car then there are a number of tours that you can book to explore the island:
- Island Flavours full day tour
- 3 hour ebike tour from Corralejo
- Cofete 4Γ4 Jeep tour
- Volcano hike and wine tasting

Most Instagrammable Photo Spots in Fuerteventura β North
1) Corralejo sand dunes
One of the most instagrammable photo spots in Fuerteventura are the sand dunes in Corralejo, the largest sand dunes in the Canary Islands. The Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo has miles of white sand beaches, clear turquoise waters and rolling dunes. Come for a surf, or just to lay on the beach, and then enjoy a walk in the dunes.
The best way to get to the sand dunes is to drive, there are plenty of places to park alongside the road. Alternatively you can get the bus from Corralejo which will drop you off near the RIU hotel.
The most instagrammable photo spots in Corralejoβs sand dunes are near Playa del Moro (here you have the road intersecting the beach and dunes) and the dunes near Playa Larga (they are quite high here).

2) Lobos Island
One of the top things to do in Fuerteventura is to take the 15 minute ferry from Corralejo to Lobos Island or the Isla de Lobos. Named after the monk seals that used to inhabit the island (Lobos = Wolf, and seals are known as sea wolves in Spanish), Lobos is a nature preserve with a unique landscape of salt marshes and hornitos (small volcanic mounds), as well as a few beautiful beaches and natural pools.
The most instagrammable places on Lobos Island include the Playa de la Concha and the Puertito Isla De Lobos (make sure to come here at high tide). Both are very close to where the ferry drops you off so easy to walk to.
The island is uninhabited so I recommend staying in Correlajo.

3) Playa del Aguila
Another must visit beach in Fuerteventura is the Playa del Aguila to the west of the island near El Cotillo. The beach is bordered by these epic high cliffs, and itβs the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
The only way to get to Playa del Aguila is by car along a dirt road. You donβt need a 4Γ4 but I recommend driving cautiously.
Playa del Aguila is pretty close to Correlajo but if you want to stay in a calmer part of the island you might wish to stay in El Cotillo.

4) Piedra Playa
If you are visiting Playa del Aguila then make sure to also check out the next beach along, Piedra Playa. At certain times of the day, depending on the tides, you will get beautiful instagrammable turquoise lagoons forming on the beach.
The best way to get to Piedra Playa is by car, however you can also get a bus to El Cotillo and walk from there.

5) The windmills of Fuerteventura (molinos)
Grain milling was a popular activity in the traditional economy of Fuerteventura after the colonization of the island. This meant that the new technologies for their exploitation were introduced, and you will still find a number of cute windmills around Fuerteventura. My favourites were the Molinos De Villaverde. The whitewashed walls speckled with bricks made for a super instagrammable photo spot.

6) Barranco Encantado (Barranco de Los Enamorados)
The word barranco translates to ravine in Spanish, you will likely come across this word a few times in the Canary Islands. Most of the βbarrancosβ are dry, so you can walk directly through the ravines and admire the erosion from ancient rivers. The most instagrammable ravine to discover in Fuerteventura is the barranco encantado (also known as the barranco de los enamorados), the narrow yellow and orange canyons of fossilized sand will make you feel like youβre exploring Antelope Canyon in the USA.
You will need a car to get to the Barranco and then you can walk the whole way through. There are a number of different paths to follow (and no mobile signal) so be careful not to get lost! I recommend following my guide and entering from the north of the barranco to find the most instagrammable photo spots.

7) Popcorn beach
Personally this was my least favourite place in Fuerteventura, I didnβt really get the hype. However the washed up coral on the beach really do look like pieces of popcorn, so itβs fun to quickly visit and snap an instagram picture.
It isnβt labeled as Popcorn Beach on Google Maps so you will need to search for Playa del Bajo de la Burra. You will need a car to get here (along a dirt track), or you can walk/cycle from Corralejo.

8) Calderon Hondo (Volcano crater)
A unique instagrammable photo spot in Fuerteventura is the Calderon Hondo, a volcano crater to the north of the island. In about 30 minutes you can hike up to the rim of crater and take a look inside as well as admire the surrounding volcanos.
You can drive to the base of the volcano, or if you want to visit a few places in the north of Fuerteventura then why not book a tour?

9) The rock pool near Puerto del Rosario
One of the most instagrammable photo spots in Fuerteventura is the natural rock pool south of Puerto del Rosario. At low tide the water is extremely calm and transparent, and the pool is bordered by these dark basaltic columns.
Itβs quite a popular spot so I recommend coming a bit before low tide so you have some time to enjoy it to yourself. It has a very generic name on Google Maps βpiscina naturaleβ so make sure to follow my guide on how to find the secret rock pool in Fuerteventura.

10) The Arco de las Penitas
Another unique photo spot in Fuerteventura is the arco de las Penitas, a beautiful natural arch located in the Barranco de las Penitas (the ravine of the small boulders). It isnβt the easiest place to find, nor the easiest to get to, so make sure to bring closed shoes and an adventurous spirit. I recommend parking on Camino Pajara, then you want to head north, and take the path to the left before the little church.
11) Astronomical Viewpoint Sicasumbre
One of the best places to enjoy the arid landscape of Fuerteventura is the Astronomical viewpoint sicasumbre. It gives you a perfect vantage point over several mountains making it a really unique photo spot.

12) Betancuria
Betancuria is the most instagrammable town in Fuerteventura. Picture white-washed buildings, palm trees and thousands of colourful flowers. If youβre driving through the centre of the island Betancuria is the perfect lunch stop. The most instagrammable photo spot in Betancuria is the square near the church de Santa MarΓa.

13) Ajuy
One of the top things to do in Fuerteventura, as well as being a great photo spot, are the Ajuy caves. The Ajuy caves are the oldest formations in the Canary Islands, you can easily walk along the rugged coastline to admire them and even climb down into two of them. Ajuy also has a cute fishing town set right on a black sand beach making for another great photo spot.

14) Aguas Verdes Natural Pools
Another beautiful natural pool to check out are the Aguas Verdes to the west of Fuerteventura (not far from Ajuy). Similar to the rock pool near Puerto del Rosario you will need to check the tide times and aim for low tide. Aguas Verdes translates to green pools, the water is crystal clear and the pools are hidden amongst beautiful black volcanic rock.

15) Playa de Sotavento
The playa de Sotavento is easily the most beautiful beach in Europe. It is a secluded fine sand beach that stretches for over 6km. At high tide these sand bars and turqiose lagoons emerge creating an absolute paradise and making it one of the most instagrammable places in Fuerteventura. I recommend parking at Risco del Paso for easiest access to the lagoons.

16) INNSIDE by Melia
One of the most instagrammable hotels in Fuerteventura is the beautiful INNSIDE by Melia in Costa Calma. The infinity pool boasts views onto the playa de Sotavento, so itβs the perfect place to stay to visit the above beach! The hotel is very modern and artistic, every corner is just picture perfect!

17) Jandia national park
Jandia National Park (or Parque Natural JandΓa) is a large nature reserve consisting of sand dunes, epic mountains and beaches. It is one of my favourite instagrammable photo spots in Fuerteventura, as there are so many picture possibilities! I recommend stopping at the punto de vista sobre puerto de montana for a nice viewpoint of Cofete beach, but beware itβs very windy!
There isnβt a proper road in Jandia national park, but as long as you drive carefully you donβt necessarily need a 4Γ4 as the road is never steep. I have personally drive here three times in a normal car, but I have heard stories of cars breaking down. If you love adventure and are a bit of an adrenaline junkie then you might want to try a quad tour of the park, you will be picked up from your hotel in the south and can discover amazing natural scenery whilst enjoying the thrill of riding a quad!
Jandia national park is all the way in the south so I recommend stayed in Morro Jable or Costa Calma to have more time here and less driving time.

18) Cofete beach
The most rural beach in Fuerteventura is Cofete Beach. The long stretch of sand shielded by the mountains of Jandia National Park will make you feel like you have been shipwrecked on an island. Itβs a beautiful instaworthy beach but beware of the tides and jellyfish!

19) Wild dolphins near Morro Jable
Fuerteventura has a plethora of incredible marine life, including both whales and dolphins! As a lover of the ocean I couldnβt visit the island without trying to see some wild sea animals. I was fortunate enough to be invited out on the Casablanca Suites family boat, where we were able to admire a humungous pod of dolphins! There are a number of snorkelling and dolphin watching tours offering similar experiences, which I definitely recommend as one of the top things to do in Fuerteventura

20) Casablanca hotel
If you are visiting the south I recommend staying at the most instagrammable hotel in Fuerteventura, the Casablanca Suites in Morro Jable. With itβs white washed walls and views of the ocean you will feel like you are in Santorini, Greece! The Casablanca Suites are a family run business and you will feel very much at home in their freshly decorated suites.

Fuerteventura is truely a gem, and is one of my favourite of the Canary Islands. If you love unique landscapes and taking photos itβs definitely worth exploring! There arenβt many places where you can find Mars-like terrain and paradise beaches. I hope you enjoy these instagrammable photo spots in Fuerteventura.
