How to make money online from anywhere in the world (best online jobs)

After years of working in an office and dreaming of a nomadic lifestyle and the ability to make money online from anywhere in the world, I can now make a full time income online. There are so many different online jobs and ways to make a passive income online, anyone can come a digital nomad! Keep reading to find out how to make money online.

10 Ways to Make Money Working Online

1) START A BLOG

One of the main ways that I make money online is through this blog. The best thing about a blog is that anyone can do it! Think about what you are passionate about and skilled in and start a blog! It will take a lot of your time but it is an amazing learning process and once your blog posts are written they are out there making you a nice online passive income.

If you want to monetise your blog then you will need to be self-hosted. My blog is hosted by Bluehost, one of the more popular and affordable web hosts.

How to monetise your blog

1) Affiliate links

The most popular way to monetise a blog is using affiliate links. This is when you link to a particular product or service using a trackable link and you gain a commission if someone purchases that product or service (at no extra cost to them).

Affiliate programmes:
– Bluehost – one of the best paying affiliate programmes (another good reason to use them as your web host!)
– Booking.com
– Amazon
– CJ affiliate network
– Rewardstyle

Make sure to include an affiliate link in each of your blog posts, this will help you to passively monetise each one at no extra cost to your audience. Just make sure that it’s relevant to your article.

You will also need to include aΒ disclaimerΒ to inform your audience that you have relationships with brands, products, services or companies you publicly recommend. Most bloggers include this a the beginning of their blog post. It should be something along the lines of:

This post contains affiliate links. If you use these links to buy something we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting this blog.

Check out the FTC guidelines for more information.

2) Display Ads

Another easy way to make money with your blog is with display ads, as once you’ve set it up you don’t need to do much. However be cautious not to over do it as you don’t want to diminish the user experience of your visitors.

The two most popular sites to monetise display ads are Mediavine and Ezoic. You only need to have over 10k sessions per month to join Ezoic and over 50k sessions per month to join Mediavine. Here you can easily make anywhere upwards of $100 a month.

If you don’t quite have the blog traffic yet then you can also try Google Adsense however don’t expect to make a super high revenue from it.

3) Sponsored blog posts

Once your blog is more established you might start getting emails from brands interested in sponsoring articles on your blog. This can either be them guest writing a blog including their own links for you to post or sponsoring you to write the post. Make sure to include your contact information on your blog so that they know how to reach you.

If you have a specific idea in mind for an article that might interest certain brands then make sure to pitch your idea to them! For example if you’re putting together a travel gift guide you could contact a few brands that you love that you think would be relevant for the post.

4) Sell your own products

If you are self hosted then you will be able to use the Woocommerce plugin to set up an online shop on your blog. Through your shop you can sell your own products. The most popular products for bloggers to sell are digital ones such as ebooks or presets.

Below you can see a before/after for my City Style Lightroom preset, a digital product that I sell in my Wanderlust Collection on my shop.

2) MONETISE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

When starting your blog I recommend creating some social media channels to go with it (ideally all in the same name). I have an Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok and Facebook. Not only can you use these platforms to promote your blog and grow your traffic but you can also monetise them.

If you have over 1K followers on YouTube you can earn money per view on your videos, you can also be sponsored to create videos for brands. On Pinterest you can make an income by creating pins using affiliate links. On TikTok you can also create sponsored videos for brands or be paid to use a particular song in your videos.

I primarily monetise my Instagram. Once you’ve grown to 3k followers and have a nice specific niche, you can start pitching and finding paid collaborations through agencies like Tribe. Find out more about how to get paid collaborations in my ebook on How to Grow & Monetize your Instagram. Just make sure to have a good balance between paid ads and your own content.

You can also use social media to promote your own work and attract clients. For example are you a photographer? or graphic designer? Then make sure to show your best work and explain in your bio what services you offer.

3) SETUP AN ONLINE SHOP

In addition to setting up a shop on your blog to sell your own digital products you could also set up a shop to sell physical products.

Think about what you are passionate about and skilled in. Do you love stickers? or making jewellery? or candles? or are you very artistic? Then why not make money online by selling your products.

You can either sell these products via your blog’s shop or create an Etsy or Ebay page. You can then use your social media channels to promote your shop. TikTok is a great place to easily go viral (especially for small businesses), just create a video showing your products and sharing your story!

4) TEACH ENGLISH ONLINE

If you are a native English speaker then an easy and fun way to make money online is by teaching English. All you need is a TEFL certificate which you can get online, and you can make around €14-20 an hour.

I teach English online a few hours a week via my phone with Palfish. There are a number of different platforms to teach English on but I chose Palfish because:
– They accept a larger variety of nationalities (British, Irish, Australian, Canadian, and American).
– You teach via an app on your phone or a tablet, as you don’t need a laptop so it’s easy to work whilst travelling.
– There are no minimum hours, you are in charge of your own schedule and can choose what hours you work.

I would recommend googling it so that you can find the best platform for you. If you decide to join Palfish please use my link and sign up code 51464949. I will then be linked at your mentor in the app and can help you through the application process and interview, answering any questions you might have. I also get a small commission which is most appreciated!

5) BE AN ONLINE TEACHER OR TUTOR

If you are interested in teaching but you aren’t a native English person (or maybe you don’t want to teach English), then you could also look into teaching or tutoring a particular subject or skill online. Maybe you’re a chef and want to teach online cooking classes, or maybe you have a degree in Maths and want to tutor Math students.

You can find tutoring jobs on Preply or promote your tutoring lessons via Upwork.

6) OFFER YOUR SERVICES AS A FREELANCER

Thanks to the internet it is now easier than ever to find contracts as a freelancer. Whatever you are skilled in and have work experience in you can promote your services via Fiverr. You could be a translator, copywriter, programmer, graphic designer or a videographer. On Fiverr brands can search by profession and then look through what different people offer so that they can find the right person for their specific need.

I am a freelance social media marketer and content creator. I have over 5 years experience in social media marketing as well as an Instagram with over 100k followers. Once I have a particular mission or contract I am able to do this job online from anywhere in the world. All I need is my laptop and an internet connection.

I would also recommend promoting what you do to your friends and family (maybe via a Facebook post) as they might know of a freelance position going or have a relevant contact for you. Alternatively you can try pitching to small companies that you admire that you think might need your help.

7) BECOME A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT

If you are only just starting out working and don’t have much previous work experience then you might want to look into being a Virtual Assistant (VA). This is where you work for someone helping them reply to emails, manage their calendar, make phone calls, deal with customers etc… Whatever the person needs help with.

You don’t need much work experience to do this, however you will need to be extremely organised and have good problem solving skills.

You can promote your Virtual Assistant services on Fiverr. I would also recommend asking around and seeing who might need help with their current work load.

8) SELL YOUR PHOTOS

If you are creative and good at photography then you might want to consider selling your photos online to make money. These photos don’t necessarily need to be epic landscapes or cityscapes, a lot of stock images sites are interested in beautiful flat lays and styled shots (like the below shot). Have a look at stock images to get an idea of what works and what is missing.

You can start selling your photos viaΒ Adobe StockΒ orΒ Getty Images.

9) CONTENT CREATOR

If you are into photography or videography, then you might want to make money online by creating content for brands. All brands need this sort of content, from restaurants to fashion labels. This content could be for the brand’s website, their social media posts or even printed leaflets. You need to be a talented photographer or videographer with good equipment to do this.

You can promote your work and services on Fiverr, as well as use social media to show your portfolio.

10) GET PAID TO SHARE YOUR OPINIONS THROUGH ONLINE SURVEYS & RESEARCH

A popular and easy way to make money online is by filling out surveys. Research companies are always recruiting new members worldwide to answer surveys and test new products. For a few minutes of your time filling in a form, you can earn a few dollars. This definitely won’t replace your full-time job; however, it is a goodΒ way to make extra money in your free time.

A few good ones to try are:Β Toluna,Β LifePoints,Β Onepoll,Β i-Say,Β Pinecone,Β SurveyBods, Survey Junkie. Swagbucks rewards you not just for completing surveys but for simply surfing the web, watching videos and playing games!

If you’re looking to earn a bit more money for sharing your opinions then you can join User Interviews. Here you can earn anywhere from $40 for 30 minutes to $200 for an hour! Have a browse through the different paid research studies to see what is applicable to you and apply. Please note that some of the payment is done via Amazon gift cards so make sure to check this.
