Most Instagrammable Places in Chefchaouen – West Medina

1) Blue street with red pots

Let’s start with one of the most instagrammable places in Chefchaouen, a super cute blue street with blue pots. During the day locals put out a cute tea setup, which you will need to pay to take a photo with. If you want to street to yourself I recommend coming before 9am.

2) House of Mosaics

Can you believe that in the streets of Morocco you can find a Pixar-esque house?! This intricately decorated house is a hidden gem. I love the flat iron style paired with lots of plants at the entrance. It’s easy to see why this is one of the most instagrammable Chefchaouen photo spots! I recommend a wide angle lens to fully appreciate and capture this beautiful place, I shot the below at 24mm. I went in the morning around 9am and there was no one.

3) The white mosque of the Souk

One of the best Instagram spots in Chefchaouen is the White Mosque of the Souk. I randomly stumbled across this street and I just loved the beautiful contrast of the white mosque with the blue streets. I went here both at 9am and 5pm and it was always mostly calm with just a few locals walking by.

4) The bluest street in Chefchaouen

I am adding in the bluest street in Chefchaouen, because it’s SO BLUE! However you can’t find it on Google Maps as it isn’t officially a street, more a little alleyway leading up to two houses. But it’s hard to miss – it’s just opposite Said’s Orange Juice Shop.

5) Said’s Orange Juice Shop

Another one of the most instagrammable places in Chefchaouen is Said’s Orange Juice shop. Not only can you grab a tasty fresh orange juice, but the bright oranges paired with the blue walls make it the perfect spot for some Chefchaouen photography. The shop opens at 10am, but I recommend coming later afternoon when the shop is in the shade with some side light.

6) Place El Haouta

Place El Haouta, a lesser-known gem in Chefchaouen, is a charming square perfect for capturing the essence of Moroccan street life. Surrounded by traditional blue-and-white buildings, this quaint spot offers a serene atmosphere away from the more crowded areas of the medina. The square features a lovely fountain and is often frequented by locals, giving you a glimpse into everyday life in Chefchaouen.

Its authentic vibe and picturesque setting make it a fantastic spot for photography, allowing you to capture unique Chefchaouen photos that showcase the city’s true character.

7) Blue doors with stars

Another spot that I stumbled across whilst getting lost in the most beautiful streets in Morocco, were these amazing blue doors with stars. I don’t have the exact address as it’s a private house and not possible to pin on a map. However it’s just behind the Place El Haouta, next to Riad Dar Chama.

8) Prettiest door in Chefchaouen – Sidi Bouchouka

Chefchaouen is full of beautiful streets and doors, however if you are looking for the prettiest door in Chefchaouen you need to head to Sidi Bouchouka photo spot. The turquoise blue door, surrounded by super colourful tiles makes it one of the most instagrammable places in Chefchaouen. I recommend taking photos here in the morning when the door is completely in the shade.

9) Beautiful blue door with tiles

Not far from the cute blue street with the red pots, and down the road from the prettiest door in Chefchaouen. You’ll find another beautiful blue door with orange tiles and a grapevine running overhead. Keeping it cool even in the heat of the day. As this Chefchaouen phot spot is a bit out of the way it’s always pretty quiet. You’ll find it just behind the Dar Sababa Riad.

10) Restaurant Hamsa

One of the top things to do in Chefchaouen, is enjoy a meal on a rooftop overlooking the blue city. I really loved restaurant Hamsa, both for its view and food! The menu features local dishes and caters for both vegans and those who need gluten-free options.

11) The Magic Lamp House of Aladin

The Magic Lamp House of Aladin is a charming restaurant offering a stunning view over Chefchaouen’s main square,

Although I missed visiting this spot on my recent trip as it was closed at sunset when I wanted to go, my memories and photos from 2013 remind me of its magical ambiance. This restaurant is a hidden gem, providing a beautiful vantage point to observe the vibrant activity of the square below. It’s an ideal spot for enjoying a meal while soaking in the picturesque scenery and capturing perfect photos of Chefchaouen. If you’re planning your visit, try to arrive before sunset to secure a prime spot and enjoy the enchanting view.

12) Cute paid house setup

One of my favourite instagrammable photo spots in Chefchaouen is actually in the courtyard of someone’s home. It’s open 10am to 7pm and costs 5 MAD (around 50 cents), so make sure to bring cash. It’s a cute spot and also very easy to take photos solo here as it’s in an enclosed space. I went around 10am and the light was perfect.

As it’s someone house, there isn’t an exact address for this place. It’s located off of the main walking street where you’ll also find the Sidi Bouchouka photo spot. Not far from Restaurant Casa Andaluz and Le Rêve Bleu.

14) Cute blue street with bunting

Just up the hill from the Lonely Planet cover picture location you’ll find this beautiful blue street with little bunting flags and a mountain backdrop. As it’s out of the way, not many tourists come up here, so it’s easy to take photos with the street empty!

15) Cute street with decoration

Another instagram photo spot in Chefchaouen that I found completely by chance is this cute street with decoration hanging down from the ceiling. It’s located on Rue Raouachid near hotel Guernica. I was here at 3:30pm and didn’t have to wait long to have the street to myself for a quick photo.

One of the best things to do in Chefchaouen is a short hike to the Spanish mosque, AKA Bouzafer Mosque. It will reward you with panoramic views of the city. I recommend going at sunset for an incredible golden hue shining over the city. Making for the perfect place to take a photo of Chefchaouen from afar.

How to Get to Chefchaouen

The most convenient way to reach Chefchaouen is by bus or taxi from major cities like Tangier, Tetouan, or Fez.

The journey from Tangier takes about two hours by car or three hours by bus. I personally used the indrive app (kind of like Uber but you have to pay in cash). Here I was able to find a good deal from Tangier for 500 MAD, around £40 (Usually it should be around 700-800 MAD). Then I took the CTM bus back to Tangier for 70 MAD (around £5), plus a 5 MAD cash fee for my suitcase. This is a modern bus with air conditioning so it’s very comfortable. Just make sure to book your ticket online at least one day in advance.

If you plan on coming just for a day from Tangier then you might want to book a day trip transfer. You can also do a day trip from Fez. However it will take around 4 hours one way from Fez, giving you hardly any time in Chefchaouen.
