Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Tenerife

One of my favourite things to do everyday is watch the sunset. Not only are they beautiful but I always feel so peaceful inside. Tenerife has a number of great spots around the island to watch the sun go down. These are also the best spots to take instagrammable photos during golden hour. Keep reading to find out the best places to watch the sunset in Tenerife.

Best places to watch the sunset in Tenerife – North

1) Teide National Park

One of the best places to watch the sunset in Tenerife is Teide National Park. Sit above the clouds and watch the sunset into the ocean whilst admiring the silhouette of El Teide. It’s definitely a bucket-list item for your trip to Tenerife!

There are a number of different places to watch the sunset in Teide National Park but the Mirador de Chipeque is one of the most popular ones.

If you’re looking for a more unique experience, as well as a great photo opportunity, you should book a sunset picnic overlooking Mount Teide with Picnic Canary. You can DM them on Instagram to book.

2) Playa de Benijo

Another unmissable spot to watch the sunset is playa de Benijo in Anaga National Park. The black sand reflects the beautiful golden tones and sunset colours, whilst the unique rock formations make for instagrammable photo subjects.

3) Anaga National Park

One of my favourite places in Tenerife is the Anaga National Park, the luscious forests and epic mountains are really quite spectacular. You should definitely include it in your Tenerife road trip itinerary! Whilst the sunset at playa de Benijo is definitely one of the best places to watch the sunset in Tenerife, I also recommend heading up into the national park and watching it from on top of the mountains. The golden light is quite spectacular!

4) Masca Valley

Masca Valley was carved out around 10 million years ago by basaltic lava flows. The valley is incredibly unique with Masca Village at the centre of it with its iconic rock, which is also super instagrammable, especially during golden hour as the light seeps in behind the rock.

Enjoy the golden hour light in Masca village before driving back up to Mirador de Masca (you should be driving towards Santiago del Teide) to watch the sunset into the ocean whilst enjoying a view of the green mountains and winding road.

5) El Sauzal

If you’re hoping to capture the sunset with a view of Tenerife’s coastline as well as Mount Teide I recommend heading to El Sauzal. This is a great area to come during the day too!

There are a number of beautiful spots to watch the sunset from here. My favourites are:

  • The mirador overlooking Garanona (Calle la Jara, 4, 38358 Tacoronte)
  • Parque Los Lavaderos
  • Cafe Vista Paraiso

6) Mirador de las Teresitas

If you are staying in Santa Cruz the mirador de las Teresitas is a great nearby location to watch the sunset. It gives you a great view over the playa de las Teresitas too!

7) Punta de Teno

Another one of the top places to watch the sunset in Tenerife is the most westerly point of the island, Punta de Teno. Here you’ll find a very photogenic lighthouse which will make the perfect subject for any photos taken during golden hour and sunset.

You can hike here through Teno national park, catch the local bus from Buenavista del Norte or after 7pm you can also drive directly in.

8) Los Gigantes

If you ask locals where the best place to watch the sunset is in Tenerife, most will answer Los Gigantes. Personally it wasn’t my favourite, however I did love taking photos of the epic 600 metre high cliffs during golden hour.

There are a few different spots to enjoy the sunset, but my favourite was the mirador Tancon which gives you a direct view of the cliffs and ocean.

If you want to enjoy a drink or food whilst watching the sunset I would check out the bar at Mirador Archipenque or you might want to stay a night at the Barcelo Santiago hotel.

9) Playa de las Americas

Another popular place to watch the sunset in south Tenerife is Playa de las Americas. There are a number of different palm fringed beaches along this coastline, as well as lots of beach bars.

I hope you are able to enjoy as many of these sunset spots in Tenerife as possible, and that you don’t get the calima hazing up the sky. I recommend going to these places an hour before sunset so that you can also soak in golden hour. It really is quite spectacular to photograph!
